Edwardsville Gaming Ballot Initiative March 2026

Mission Statement

Small businesses are the backbone of Edwardsville and a driving force behind the vibrant community it has become- especially through its thriving food and beverage scene. In challenging economic times, our organization is committed to supporting the city's bars and restaurants by advocating for fairness, competitiveness, and sustainable growth through thoughtful initiatives.

We aim to educate residents on the impact of various revenue streams and how they benefit the city, local businesses, and the community as a whole.  Through collaboration and high standards, we work to protect and strengthen the businesses that make Edwardsville a great place to live, work, and enjoy.  As small business owners, we invest fully in our employees, our establishments, and our community, with the goal of building lasting partnerships that ensure long-term success for Edwardsville.

Lower Taxes/Keeping Taxes Low

The expansion of video gaming will offer a consistent revenue stream for the city and its business partners. Currently Edwardsville allows gaming for fraternal organizations such as the Legion, Moose, etc, but not for restaurants. Expanding gaming to existing bars and restaurants would add more tax revenue that is currently going every town around Edwardsville, including across the street in Glen Carbon. This additional revenue could be used by the city to:

  • Keep your property taxes lower
  • Put more Policeman and Firefighters on the Streets
  • Allow the city to make improvements to the roads and infrastructure

Support Small Businesses

By voting YES for the expansion of video gaming, you will help small businesses as they navigate in tough economic times.

As our costs across the board rise, we could use these additional revenues to:

  • Offset higher insurance and utilities
  • Offer higher wages for our staff
  • Allow us money to put back into our facilities to improve your daily experience
  • Keep us competitive with our neighboring communities, keeping entertainment dollars in town

Proposed Strict Regulations

  • 2-year liquor license requirement to be eligible for a gaming license
  • Private gaming areas/Strict visibility requirements
  • NO SLOT PARLORS/NO SLOTS IN GAS STATIONS
  • 50/50 Revenue requirement to close any loopholes
  • Extremely limited advertising restrictions/NO EXTERIOR ADVERTISING

Businesses Give back to the Community

Small businesses support charitable groups all over town- churches, schools, fundraisers, kid's sports teams, non-profits, the list is never ending

We are now forced to make tough decisions as to whether we can afford to support these great causes- this additional revenue would allow us to continue this support throughout Edwardsville
